ARCHIVE: Spring 2012 Commencement
Belton, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor spring Commencement was held on Saturday, May 5, in the Bell County Expo Center. This was the university’s 156th graduating class. Three hundred and forty-nine students were awarded degrees. Of these, 291 received baccalaureate degrees, 42 received master’s degrees and 16 students received doctoral degrees.
“Our world has never been in more need of what you have to offer,” UMHB President Randy O’Rear said. “You have left footprints all over our campus. Now it is time for you to leave footprints all around the world.”
Student awards given during the ceremony included the Provost Medal, which usually goes to the individual student with the highest overall grade point average in a graduating class. This year’s Provost Medal was a tie between 12 outstanding students who each graduated with a perfect 4.0 GPA. This year’s Provost Medalists were Hayley Ainsworth of Robinson, Gwendolyn Barnard of Liberty Hill, Connor Buchanan of Celina, Luke Cielonko of Cedar Park, Abigail Dumont of Euless, Kolton Keith of Huffman, Virginia Locke of Waco, Kelly Jo Murphy of Georgetown, Shelby Newman of Robinson, Andrea Sweet of Belton, Molly Wahlquist of Belton, and Brittany Williams of Burleson.
The Loyalty Cup for the student who is most representative of the ideals, traditions and spirit of the university went to Landra Jane Davidson of Abilene.
“She embodies what UMHB means to all of us,” O’Rear said of Davidson during the ceremony.
The President’s Award for meritorious service went to Sara Elizabeth Hayward of Nacogdoches.
“She has already represented UMHB with her strong character and integrity,” O’Rear said. “Now she is ready to represent our university to the outside world.”
