Belton, Texas – The College of Visual and Performing Arts at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor presents baritone Samuel Davis II in recital on Tuesday, April 8 at 7:30 p.m. in the Hughes Recital Hall of Presser Hall on the UMHB campus. Davis will be accompanied by Associate Director of Choral Studies, pianist Matt Crosby. The recital is free and open to the public.
Davis is the son of Bruce and Janese Baugh of Belton. A graduate of Belton High School and a senior Music Education major at UMHB, Davis is a member of One Voice, Concert Choir, and Student Foundation. He also serves as student conductor and accompanist for University Singers. His honors include first place in the Texas State Music Teachers Association Young Artist Vocal Contest, three year finalist in the Texoma National Association of Teachers of Singing tri-state competitions, and the 2013-2014 Presser Award at UMHB. Davis appeared as “Don Alfonso” in the UMHB Opera production of Mozart’s Cosi Fan Tutte in 2013. Also an accomplished pianist, Davis accompanies the UMHB Conservatory Concert Boys Choir and serves as pianist and Assistant Choir Director at Lakeview Baptist Church. Davis is the secretary of UMHB’s Collegiate Texas Music Educators Association.
The recital will feature songs and arias by Handel, Strauss, Schubert, Korngold, Tosti, Tchaikovsky and Rodgers & Hammerstein. Davis is the voice student of Associate Professor Lisa Clement.
