Belton, TX - The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football team takes a break from American Southwest Conference play this weekend, but the Crusaders are far from taking a breather this Saturday. The 6th-ranked UMHB football team will instead host #2 Wisconsin-Whitewater in a non-conference showdown at 1:00 PM at Tiger Field in Belton. The Crusaders will bring a 6-1 overall record into the game, while the Warhawks enter the game with a spotless 7-0 mark. The game also matches up the last two NCAA Division III national runners-up. UMHB fell to Linfield 28-21 in the 2004 national title game, while UWW dropped a 35-28 decision to Mount Union in last year's championship game. It's a match-up that is drawing national attention, right in the middle of what the Crusaders hope is a run to another ASC Championship.
"I feel like both programs can really benefit from the exposure and the competition in a game like this," Crusader head coach Pete Fredenburg said. "Our ultimate goal is to win a national championship and to do that, you have to beat teams like Wisconsin-Whitewater. It is a great measuring stick for our program and it gives our kids a lot of things to look forward to. It is a game that has a lot of opportunity for us, but it is not more important that last week's game against Mississippi College, or the two games we have coming up after this one."
