Belton, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor will celebrate its 166th Fall Convocation service at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 24, in the Mayborn Campus Center on campus.
David E. Garland, Dean of George W. Truett Seminary at Baylor University and the William M. Hinson Professor of Christian Scriptures, will be the guest speaker at the 2011 Fall Convocation service.
Dr. Garland is the author of fourteen books, including commentaries on Matthew, Mark, Luke, and Corinthians, and over fifty academic journal articles. His commentary on 1 Corinthians received an Award of Merit by Christianity Today and was a finalist for the Gold Medallion presented by the Christian Booksellers Association. He was the New Testament editor for the revision of the Expositor’s Bible Commentary, and recently completed the commentary on Luke for the Zondervan Exegetical Commentary series to be published this fall.
Convocation inaugurates the official opening of the new academic school year at the university. The Gary and Diane Heavin Servant Leadership Award will be presented to two students to recognize their volunteerism and service in non-profit organizations in the community.
Fall Convocation at UMHB is open to the public.
